Ogema

Agnes B. Hause, 91, of Ogema passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 11, 2023, surrounded by her family. Her family wishes to thank Hope Hospice and Palliative Care and Aspirus Medford Hospital for their wonderful care of their mother. Agnes was born on December 2, 1931, to John and Susan (Gillen) Wieser in New Underwood, South Dakota.

Mom and Dad met with his first teaching job in Wasta SD. The superintendent befriended dad and employed Mom as the nanny for his son. He played cupid and arranged a meeting at a basketball game, within a year they were married. They headed to Ogema where Dad began teaching at Prentice High School and Mom took on her role as wife, mother and homemaker.

It didn’t seem that she ever just sat down except for mealtime and church. Every year we had huge vegetable gardens. She planted, weeded, picked and processed the food that fed us all year long. She loved tending her flower gardens, there was always something beautiful to enjoy there. These were the days of wringer washers, clothes drying on the line and ironing everything. Meals and bread were made from scratch.  Mom was a great baker especially pies, kringles, and her gigantic decorated birthday cookies for the grandkids and great grandkids.

Mom enjoyed getting together with neighbors and friends in the Ogema Homemakers Club where they would take turns hosting at their homes sharing yummy dishes and treats. She was also in the American Legion Axillary and a member of St. John the Baptist, Catholic Church in Prentice. Many summers camping throughout Wisconsin and traveling to South Dakota to see her family and the sights of Dakota.

Mom was an avid crafter; she knitted or crocheted many baby blankets for family and friends, she loved painting of all sorts including Dads many woodworking or carving projects and Christmas ornaments. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework and sewing, with Easter being her time to shine with matching dresses for all of us girls.

Her greatest joy was raising her children, and being the best Grandma and GiGi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, which she loved to spoil with her hugs and kisses, rice krispy bars and cookies.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Zokoych, Jeanne (Dave) Meverden, Gerry (Sharon) Hause, and Barbara Nicol; grandchildren, Nicole (Drew) Williams, Aimee (Alan) Van Dinter, Tanner (Tabitha) Hause, Jared (Tracy) Hause, Jayson (Emily) Nicol, and Hannah Nicol; great-grandchildren, Reid, Graham, Aurora, Orion, Aidan, Mason, Jayla, Carson, Easton, Adalyn, Quinn, and Calum; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Rodney; her parents; siblings and in-laws, Joe (Ella Mae) Wieser, Angie (Ray) Carpenter, Carl Wieser, Harold Weiser, Gerald Wieser, Mary (Max) Hoehn, Clarence (Audrey) Wieser, Kitty (Lloyd) Fenner, and Milly (Jack) Cooper; her sister and brother-in-law, Sheila (Lester) Hanson, and son-in-law, Steve Zokoych.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Pioneer Park in Ogema starting with a visitation at 11:30am on September 23rd. Lunch will be provided. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
