ALBERT KALINA
Albert Paul Kalina, 94, Phillips, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips on Friday, September 30, 2016. He was born on September 11, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Anna (Mihook) Kalina. He served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater of Action during WWII. He was married to Irene Majak in Chicago, Illinois, on June 23, 1945. He was employed by Centrell Grocers in Chicago, Illinois. He was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips and of the Blinded Veteran’s Association. He was a great fan of the Chicago Cubs and of Johnny Cash. A great joy of his life was to be able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.. He was very family orientated, and in his free time he enjoyed fishing, playing the harmonica and concertina, playing cards, especially cribbage, and enjoyed playing lottery tickets and trips to the casino.
He is survived by three daughters, Carol (John) DeLeonardis, Glenview, IL. Judy (Lester) Bulgajewski, Chicago, IL, and Marianne Kalina, Phillips; by five granddaughters, Carrie, Christine (David), Catherine (Chris), Jamie (Kory), and Alexis; by one brother, Lawrence (Barbara), Menomonie, WI; by one sister-in-law, Josie Little, Chicago, IL; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, on May 18, 2011, and is also preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Augustine, Clemantine Strok, Ann Mack, and Mary Bryja, and by five brothers, Louis, John, George, Martin, and Joseph.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 5, at Saint Threese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Military honors will be conducted by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778 and the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services. Interment will be in the Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, Illinois.
