Arnold "Arnie" Graveen

Arnold (Arnie) N. Graveen, 88, Minocqua, passed away at the Marshfield Medical Center - Weston on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Arnie was born on January 8, 1937, in Wausau to Adolph and Sylvia (Prast) Graveen. He attended school in Wausau. In 1954 he enlisted in the Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS Gregory in the Pacific as a radioman. While on leave in 1956 he married Carol Buhr having known her since they were children, they lived in California while Arnie served in the Navy.

After his honorable discharge in 1957 he worked at a number of jobs ultimately joining the Weston Police Department as a patrolman. In 1969 he moved north taking a position as a patrolman with the Minocqua Police Department. In 1984 he became Police Chief until his retirement in 1993.

For many years Arnie was involved with American Legion Post 89 in Minocqua, serving as Commander from 1999-2000. He was thrilled to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in September 2022 with son Josh as his guardian.

After retirement Arnie and Carol spent winters traveling across the US in their camper. For most of the last 15 years they spent their winters in Georgia where they both enjoyed fishing. They made many dear friends in Georgia.

Arnie loved gardening and had a large vegetable and flower garden as well as apple, pear and peach trees. 

Arnie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol; daughter Cheryl of Minocqua; son Josh (Lisa) of Stratford; grandsons Travis (Brooke) of Jump River, Todd (Christine) of Stratford, and Shawn (Marissa) of Stratford; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Arden.

Private services will be held at a later date.
