Arthur J. Ungerer, age 84, of Tomahawk, passed away on October 9, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander.
Art was born on May 21, 1936 in Harrison to Anthony & Gertrude (Winker) Ungerer. Art served our country with the US Navy as a signalman from 1954 – 1958. He was married to Elaine Rose on May 2, 1958 in Long Beach, California; together they had four children. Art worked at the Tomahawk Paper Mill for 40 years in the machine room as a coal handler. Art loved hunting and fishing, especially pheasant hunting in South Dakota. Throughout his life, Art played basketball and baseball. Art was a great support to the Tomahawk community – always watching youth sporting events, from Sara Park sharpening skates to Tyler Kahle Memorial Field watching baseball. He loved watching all Wisconsin Sports – Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Art always was lending a helping hand wherever he could. He always had someone to check up on or a friend to check in on. Art will forever be remembered for all of the times he helped others, but his biggest love was his family. He was the pillar of the Ungerer family.
Art is survived by his wife – Elaine of Tomahawk; children – Tony (Stacy) Ungerer of Merrill, Nick (Mary) Ungerer of Tomahawk, Mitch (Kim) Ungerer of Wausau and Lisa (Mark) Brener of Wausau.
