Adolph "Artie" Benedict, age 78, 116 Deer Park Road, Tomahawk, died unexpectedly March 5, 2009 at his residence. Artie was born July 10, 1930 in Chicago, the son of Adolph and Theresa (Fecher) Benedict. Artie moved from Chicago to Tomahawk in 1942. He was formerly employed with Owens-Illinois in Tomahawk for many years, and dispatched for the Tomahawk Police Department full time from 1961 - 1971, and again part time from 1999 until his retirement in 2002. He served 12 years with the National Guard, and had 1 year of Active Duty. Artie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Artie is survived by relatives in Germany and many friends in Tomahawk. A Mass of Christian Burial for Artie Benedict will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 10, 2009 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. Military Rites will precede the Mass. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of Mass at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
