Barbara I. Schmidtbauer, age 79, of Tomahawk, passed away on May 12, 2016 under the care of Aseracare Hospice. Barb was born on September 16, 1936 in Colby, WI to Harry & Ethel Bender. She was formerly married to William Schmidtbauer; He passed away in 2007. Barb was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years. During that time, Barb was named the first Woman President of the Rural Route Carriers Association of Wisconsin. She was also a Home Economics teacher at the Tripoli High School for 7 years. Barb belonged to the Tomahawk Women’s Civic Club, she started the Tomahawk Chapter of the Red Hat Society and she also started the 4H Club in the Nokomis Area. Barb was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk, where she was the choir director for many years. Barb is survived by 2 Sons, Robert & Larry Schmidtbauer, both of Tomahawk 1 Grandson, Taylor Schmidtbauer 1 Sister, Betty Jean Nelson, of Decora, IA Barb is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and her former husband. A Memorial Service for Barb Schmidtbauer will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk. Pastor Debra Hastings will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. The Krueger Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
