Ben J. Cherney, age 87, of W5682 Honeymoon Bay Road, Tomahawk, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk.
Ben was born February 13, 1924 in Fussville, Wisconsin to the late Paul and Agnes Cherney. He married Lucille D. Gresbach on June 21, 1947 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Ben was a veteran of World War II, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. He owned and operated Falls Bookkeeping Service in Menomonee Falls for many years. He and Lu moved to Tomahawk in 1973 where he owned and operated the Clear Lake Condominiums until retiring in 1988. Ben was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers. He and Lu had vacationed in Florida over many winters. He enjoyed boating and waterskiing with family and friends, and in his later years, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, golfing, and going to casinos. Ben's favorite times were spent with his family. He was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls and a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk.

Ben is further survived by 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 Sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Fr. Dennis Wieland will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:00 a.m. Locally, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
