BERNADINE L. PLEIN
Feb. 10, 1941 – Oct. 20, 2018
Bernadine (Bonnie) Louise Plein, of Phillips, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at home while under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. She was surrounded by her husband and her three children as she passed into eternal life.
Bonnie was born on February 10, 1941, in Phillips, the daughter of Mike and Catherine (Radovich) Palko. She attended and graduated from Phillips High School, Class of 1959. After graduation she moved to Milwaukee and that is where she met her future husband, Donald Plein. They were married on July 1, 1961, in Phillips and were happily married for 57 years.
Bonnie was the co-owner of Plein Manufacturing along with her husband Don where they worked side by side at their pallet manufacturing plant for many years. They eventually sold their business and started to travel, including trips to both coastlines. They spent their winters in Port Aransas, TX, for the last 14 winters. They fell in love with this tiny little island and they made a lot of great new friends there.
Bonnie was dedicated to her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Her tenacity and her spirit along with that famous twinkle in her eyes allowed her to make friends with everyone she met. She loved to crochet and made many lovely items which she donated or gave away to family and friends. She was an avid bowler and spent many years on a bowling league. She loved fishing with her husband and spent many weeks in Canada doing just that year after year.
She is survived by her husband, Don Plein, of Phillips; her daughter Gwen Plein of Sun Prairie, WI, Ed (Janet) Plein of Kasson, MN; daughter Deb (Scott) Feldbruegge of Wausau, WI; Sister Jean (Jim) Thibedeau; brother Frank (Wendy) Palko, brother-in-law Arvid (Kathy) Plein; brother-in-law Bob Heizler; grandchildren Ryan, Zac, Andy, and Emma; great-grandchildren Logan and Rhea; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Mike and Catherine Palko; her brother Robert Palko; brother-in-law Robert (Joan) Plein and sister-in-law Karen (Bob) Heizler.
Visitation will start at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at St. Therese of Lisieux in Phillips. The funeral Mass will follow and will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. with Father Gerald Hagen officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Flambeau Home Health and Hospice, who truly taught our family what hospice is really all about and allowed us to keep her at home until her passing.
