Bernice Helen (Vokoun) Polacek, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, at Northern Lights Care Facility in Washburn, WI. She was born in Phillips, Wisconsin, on March 29, 1935, to Edward and Bessie (Kavina) Vokoun. She was 88 years old.
Bernice graduated from Phillips High School in 1953, and then Cosmetology School in Eau Claire in 1954. She married Joseph Martin Polacek Sept 18, 1956, and they had 5 children.
Bernice loved her family and enjoyed cooking and baking for them. Her kolaches were the best! She and her husband loved to go fishing. Gardening was also a shared passion that they enjoyed together. Bernice was a beautician at the Beauty Nook, where she worked for many years. The Czech Fest was an annual highlight for her, in which she was very involved for over 20 years. She was also involved in the Catholic Daughters and UW Extension Homemakers.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph; children, Mark (Dawn) Polacek, Brian (Patrice) Polacek, Jerel (Anita) Polacek, and Janine (James) Dobson; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Raymond Vokoun.
Preceded in death by parents, Edward and Bessie Vokoun and her brothers, Edward and Jerome Vokoun.
Memorial Service at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home, 284 Chestnut Street, Phillips, WI, 54555. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
