Betty Doucette, age 90, 2418 Jersey Lane, Tomahawk, passed away Monday June 2, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born January 29, 1924 in Mosinee, the daughter of Wenzel and Margretta (Breitenstein) Vavra. She married Neiland 'Nocky' Doucette on November 12, 1949 in Wausau; he passed away October 15, 2005. Betty received her nursing degree in 1945 from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Wausau. During her life time of nursing, Betty worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Wausau, Golden Age Living Center, was a fill-in at Owens-Illinois, and as a Lincoln County home health nurse. She served as a member of the Lincoln County Health Board. She volunteered as parish nurse at the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Betty was an accomplished watercolor artist, and was an award winning member (People's Choice Award - Exhibiting in the WI State Capitol Rotunda) in the Lakeland Art League. She enjoyed her annual art painting courses and retreats, and was also an avid photographer.
Betty's creativity and enthusiasm was appreciated by her family and friends. She was involved with her family, church, and community for many years through PTA, Catholic Women's Club, Ladies Bridge Club, Maple Birch Tuesday Night Golf League, and various Hatchet Athletic Team Support groups. Most of all, Betty loved her family.
Survivors include: children, Tom Doucette, Stuart, Florida, Robert (Beth) Doucette, Ringle, Dan (Barb) Doucette, St. Germain, John Doucette, Tomahawk, Carol (Charles) Jensen, St. Croix Falls, Bill (Jane) Doucette, Iowa City, Iowa, Jeanne (Bill) Grodevant, Tomahawk, Sue Doucette, Tomahawk, Jude (Mike) Stevenson, Tomahawk. Betty is further survived by thirteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson - Galen, and sister - Dorothy Vavra.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Doucette will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Father John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home on Friday, June 6th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a Vigil Service to begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 10:30 AM until the hour of Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
