Beverly Colby Melms

Beverly C. Melms died unexpectedly on April 17 at the age of 90. She is survived by her husband Dr. Frederick Melms, her three children, Jody Renaud, of Madison, WI; William (Rachelle) Melms of Marshfield, WI; and Timothy (Carol) Melms, of Minocqua, WI.; 10 grandchildren, and her sister Nancy (Jack) Perkins of California.

Bev and her husband met in Madison on a blind date while she was a 3rd grade teacher at Marquette Elementary School and Fred was a student at the University. They married on May 7, 1954. Their first child, Jody, was born while Fred was a first year medical student. Their son Bill was born while Fred was doing his residency in Rockford, IL. Shortly after, the family to moved to Germany where Fred served as a Captain in the Air Force for three years. When they returned to the States, they made their home in Menomonie, WI, where their youngest son Timothy was born.

Bev was a committed volunteer, serving as President of Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Cross, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, P.E.O. and helping out in many ways in her church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and tending to her flowers, but Bev's most cherished role was being Mimi to her ten grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally – Frederick, John, Marie, Brett, Therese, Maddy (Luke), Jack, Natalie, Patrick, and Kate. They were her pride and joy. Bev was also blessed with the loving care of her two daughter-in-laws, Rachelle Melms and Carol Melms and further survived by many nieces, nephews, in laws and other relatives and friends.

Memorial Gathering for Bev will be held on Saturday, April 23rd from 11:00 am till 12:00 noon at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, WI with a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon.

Memorial donations in memory of Bev to the American Heart Association or to the United Methodist Church of the Pines.
