Carl Edward Bennetts

July 16, 1927 — December 29, 2021

Carl E. Bennetts, 94, of Arbor Vitae, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Howard Young Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1927 to Thomas W. and Angeline (Hartmann) Bennetts. He married Barbara Thode on February 23, 1952 at St. John’s Episcopal Chapel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He grew up in Tichigan and West Allis, Wisconsin and attended Boys Tech in Milwaukee and Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin. At age 18 he joined the Army and was sent to Los Alamos, New Mexico to be a part of the Manhattan Project. Carl loved to talk with both strangers and friends about his scientific exploits during military service, an experience that informed his life from thereon forward. After the army he worked at International Harvester as a machinist for 30 years. In his retirement years he drove school bus, first for Muskego Transport, and then for many years with Arnett Bus Service in Woodruff, Wisconsin. This was a job he loved as he was able to spend time with the students and share in their field trips and extracurricular activities.
Carl is survived by his wife, Barbara, of almost 70 years and his four children Charles, Colleen (the late Fred) Christensen, Brian (Donna), and Kathleen (Todd) Weik. He has ten grandchildren Meghan, Mackenzie, Nathan, Miranda, Heidi, Caitlyn, Corey, Charlie, Bridger, and Colter and seven great-grandchildren Rosie, Adalyn, Keegan, Corbin, Coralyn, Charlotte, and Colm. He is also survived by his sister Alice Richards of Marshall, Wisconsin, his sister-in-law Susan (Ned) Chojnacki of Wausau, and other relatives and friends.
He loved to travel, camp, visit Lake Superior, listen to big band music, sing songs he didn’t know the lyrics to, and tinker/repair everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and loving companion dogs Princess and Tina.
Cremation took place and a Celebration of Life for Carl will be held at a later date.
