Carl A. Halverson, 77, a lifelong Tomahawk area resident, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born in his grandfather’s house in the town of Bradley to Carl T. and Irma (Gaedtke) Halverson on June 21, 1941. He attended Tomahawk schools and graduated with the class of 1959. Carl worked at Owens-Illinois mill before joining the Navy Seabees, which included a tour in Vietnam, where he received the Navy Commendation medal for outstanding service. Following his military service he returned to Tomahawk and worked for Tomahawk Sand and Gravel, where he first eyed his wife, Linda Heikkinen. After their first date, Linda told her friends she was going to marry that guy. She was smitten. Sure enough, they were married October 25, 1969, a loving marriage that lasted 49 years, 7 months, and 13 days. Carl retired from the Tomahawk Mill, Woodlands Division in 2003 following 42 years of employment.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Badgers, Packers, Brewers, WWE, Nascar, and going to the casino. Carl faithfully followed his son Erik’s athletic career from Little League through college, missing only one game. He loved being with his family, especially his 2 grandchildren. Carl was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda. Two children, Trina Verage and Erik (Jessie) Halverson. Two grandchildren, Zak and Carlee. A sister, Jan (Jim) VanNorman and a brother, Walt (Carol) Halverson all of Tomahawk. He is further survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lorraine Musch and Donna Halverson, a brother-in-law, Al Musch, and a son-in-law, Scott Verage.
A Memorial Service with Military Rites for Carl A. Halverson will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11 AM from Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Ziemer will officiate. Burial of his cremains will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday, the 22nd of June at the church from 9 AM until the time of services at 11.
