Carl F. Pokela, age 92, N11445 Cty. Road A, Tomahawk, passed away March 28, 2008 at Golden Living Center - Riverview in Tomahawk. Carl was born February 19, 1916 in Brantwood to Matt and Fiina Pokela. He married Agnes Hill on June 15, 1940 in Gary, Indiana. He was employed with Prentice Hydraulics/ Omark Industries/Blount Industries for 34 years, retiring in 1983. Carl loved working in the woods, and raised Christmas trees for many years. He was a well-known accordionist in the area, and a master storyteller. Carl was very civic-minded and active in the Brantwood/Tripoli communities, serving as a volunteer with the Tripoli Fire Department, served 33 years on the Board for the Brantwood Co-op Park Association, and was also a member of the Tripoli Lions Club, served 8 years on the Tripoli School Board, and also served on other local Boards. Survivors include: Wife Agnes Pokela of Tomahawk 1 Son Darryl (Patricia) Pokela of Tomah 2 Daughters Joan (Jim) Carpenter of Fox Lake, Illinois Wendy (Dennis) Mannering of Wabeno 1 Brother Urho (Marion) Pokela of Traunik, Michigan 2 Sisters Norma Heikkinen of Prentice Helen Maki of Eben, Michigan Carl is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral Services for Carl Pokela will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from Krueger & Sons Funeral Home in Tomahawk. Pastor Dennis Mannering - son-in-law, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services at 11:00 a.m.
