Carol A Gruening

Carol A. Gruening, 88, of Tomahawk, passed away unexpectedly at her home Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

Carol was born July 28, 1934 in Wausau to Emil and Agnes Baltz. She was married for 25 years to Melvin Gruening, who eventually became her brother-in-law. Carol will be best remembered as a modern day Mother Teresa – her life goal was to help others in any way possible, often found sharing anything she could with the underserved communities she lived in. She and her family shared their home with well over 50 foster girls throughout the years, and worked at the Women’s Community shelter, in teenage group homes, and as a counselor at Lincoln Hills. She loved bringing her dog, Bianco, with her to work at the group homes for companionship and protection while working the night shift. Carol was also a black belt in Aikido martial arts and was partial owner of Phil’s Supper Club in Tomahawk for 6 years.

Surviving Carol are her children: Tim Gruening, Harshaw; Cindy Hubert (Steve Markley), Waukesha; and Bruce (Kyle) Gruening of Lake Tomahawk. Two sisters: Vernelle Carazalla, Wausau; and Beverly Gruening, Rothschild. Carol is further survived by two grandchildren: Kayci (Tyler) Stevenson and Brian Schulta; and 3 great grandchildren: Hattie, Huck, and Hogan Stevenson. She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Don, Ken, and Duane, and a great grandson, Hugo.

Carol’s life will be celebrated privately by her family. There will be no public service. Krueger Family Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for the family. You may view the obituary and share online condolences at kruegerfamilyfuneral.com
