Carol Jeanette Hess, 85, Phillips, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice on Saturday, June 3, 2017. She was born on February 29, 1932, in the Village of Marathon, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Wadzinski) Kempf. She was married to Donald Hess on May 2, 1953, in Pine City, MN. She was employed as a toy maker by the Connor Toy Factory in Wausau for many years. She was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, travel, and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; by four children, Jeff (Renee), Phillips, Gerald, Phillips, Heidi (Brian) Hurtis, Marathon, WI, and Mike (Karrie), Tomahawk; by 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and by great great grandchildren; by one brother, Donald (Joan), Lake Minocqua, WI; and by five sisters, Bonnie (Rod) Fisher, Wausau, Cathy (Bob) Szekeress, Wausau, Pat (Dave) Krake, Wausau, Ellen “Janie” Rustad, Rhinelander, and Sandy (Donald) Marquardt, Wausau. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruplinger and Linda Kempf; and by one brother, Marvin Kempf.
