Catherine Agnes Wonn died peacefully surrounded by three generations of her loving family on September 1, 2016. Catherine Wonn (nee Melior) was born in Madison, WI on July 24, 1918. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Wonn, her son Michael, and her grandson Justin.
Cathy graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison. Cathy was proud of the fact that she was the first woman to be hired by the Madison Police Department. Later Cathy became the executive secretary for the University of Wisconsin coaching staff. Cathy married Vincent Wonn on November 4, 1940, and they remained married until his death in 1998. She is survived by three children; Mary Linder, Tim (Mary Ann) Wonn and Steve (Sounantha) Wonn and by four grandchildren; Rick Linder, Nicole (Mitch) Wagner, Danna (Adam) Johnson and Matthew (Gail) Linder and by eight great grandchildren.
Cathy was well known for being an avid gardener, a lover of literature, an excellent cook and award-winning baker. Cathy had a beautiful singing voice, and enjoyed singing in school plays. Anyone who knew Cathy encountered a fearless Irish woman who was passionate about Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer football games. One of Cathy’s fondest childhood memories is going fishing with her father. Cathy, in turn, thoroughly enjoyed teaching her five grandchildren the joys of spending time on the lake fishing.
Cathy and Vincent spent their retirement years in both Florida and Wisconsin. When she became a widow, Cathy moved to Woodruff to live with her daughter Mary. Throughout her life, Cathy was a devout Catholic whose faithfulness was reflected in every aspect of her daily life through her many acts of kindness. Daily rosaries were an expression of her deep faith as well as her special and tender love for the Eucharist. Cathy inspired both family and friends alike by her dedication to her faith.
Cathy will be deeply missed by all who had the chance to know her and love her.
