CECILIA A. SOLECKI
1951 – 2019
Cecilia A. Solecki, age 67, daughter of Leo and Victoria Solecki, died on April 9, 2019 in Lake Zurich, IL after a short hospital stay. Her father grew up in Phillips and spent many years in Phillips before moving to Chicago, IL. Leo’s sister, Elizabeth Solecki, married William Stanke and their families visited back and forth between Chicago and Phillips during summer vacations while their children were growing up. Many fond memories of fishing and picnics at Solberg Lake are held by her surviving cousins who grew up in Phillips, Bill (wife Patti), Dave (wife Donna), Gloria, Tom, Terry (deceased) (wife Patricia) and Catherine Stanke. Cecilia also wrote cards and sent gifts faithfully over the years to her cousin Gloria.
Cecilia moved to Lake Zurich, IL and was an elementary school teacher for most of her career. She stopped working to take care of her aging mother who was ill. Cecilia was an active member of St Francis Desales Catholic church and worked in the food pantry. She also attended St. Anne’s House of Hope. In addition, she also worked in the Jubilee Garden which provided food for the food pantry and was written up in an article by the Chicago Tribune in May 2013 and is pictured along with several friends in a photo along with the article. Cecilia also attended community dinners at Emmaus House.
She is survived by many cousins and their families in Virginia, as Leo’s three sisters, Millie Solecki Dorish, Anne Solecki Sansom and Mary Solecki Kurdziel moved to Virginia at an early age and started their families out there. Surviving cousins include Ann Marie Hayden (husband Charles), Dyanne Mihalcoe (husband Miron), Mary Ann Adams (husband Alton deceased), Jimmy Kurdziel (wife June) and Vickie Roane (husband John).
Cecilia will be greatly missed and long remembered by her surviving cousins and their families in Wisconsin and Virginia, and friends from Chicago and Lake Zurich, IL.
The funeral service for Cecilia will be held Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass.
