Charles J. Kosina (January 31, 1928 – June 21, 2017)
Charles “Charlie” Kosina, Township of Worchester, died peacefully at his home. He was born in Lugerville and attended Lugerville Grade School. The oldest of six children, he began supporting the family as a child when his father was killed in a sawmill accident. He was stationed in the Philippines during World War II and followed that with a stint in the National Guard.
Charlie married Eileen Kmet of Phillips on August 21, 1953. They lived in Illinois for 42 years residing in Cicero, Stickney, Berwyn, and Lake Zurich. He was active as a Berwyn Boy Scout leader. He worked at Gambles in Phillips, National Tea, Cook County School of Nursing, and Sears Roebuck. Still full of energy, his first retirement did not take and he went back to work at Schultz Brothers and Vtech. The couple finally retired and moved back to Phillips in 1993. Charlie enjoyed a daily four-mile hike with his rescued husky; playing pranks on friends; early morning rides in the Tucker groomer, Flambeau River fishing trips; singing and working at the Czech Fest; watching deer from the front porch; “shooting the bull” with old friends and neighbors; and his dogs and cats and Belgian horse, Rob.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Anna (Shukala); brothers, Frank (Pat), Tony (LaVerne), John L., and sisters, Emily (Frank Dezort, Sr.) and Mary Ann (Dan Walker), and an “adopted” grandson, Kevin Clarke (killed in Iraq). He is survived by his wife, Eileen; sons, Chuck (Lynn) and John F. (Lannah) and daughter, Deborah (Marc Moulton); and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Charlie was laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery.
