Daniel David Fox, age 76 of Manitowish Waters, died on Thursday, December 3rd at home with his family by his side. Dan was born on October 9th, 1944 and adopted by Dan and Hazel (nee Gore) Fox in Chicago Illinois. He attended Glen Flora Elementary School, then Waukegan High School where he wrestled and won the individual and team State Championships his senior year in 1963. After high school he went to Indiana State on a wrestling scholarship. He first came to the Northwoods in 1969 while spending time with friends who were involved with Camp Jorn. He met Casey (nee Cowles) at Harry’s Market, they married July 13, 1984 and together had two daughters; Amy Lynn (Rory Clarke), and Sarah Danielle. He worked at multiple resorts in the area, frequently donated blood to the Red Cross and was given the Sportsmanship Award by the World Championship Musky Classic for his many years of volunteering and time spent attempting to revive fish. Dan enjoyed canoeing, fishing, cribbage, attending his daughter’s school activities, spending time with friends at The Howling Dog and he was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community who needed it. He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in October of 2019. Dan wanted to thank family and friends, in particular his wrestling team mates, coworkers, The Foleys, Byrams, Jorgensens, Groats, Jan Benson, and Joanna Johnson for a life filled with fun times and laughter; and especially to those who lent their support during his final days. He will be remembered for his special sense of humor, dedication as a father, and his willingness to go out of his way to help others. He is survived by his immediate family Casey, Amy and Sarah; his sister Mary (Tim) Calvillo; and many, many friends. He was cremated and in accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. A special thanks to his medical team at Marshfield Clinic and the Ascension Hospice care staff as they made his final days as comfortable as possible for him and his family. Memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared at nimsgernfuneral.com
