DAVID JON VODA
David J. Voda, 73, longtime Phillips resident died on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips surrounded by his family while under the care of Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice,
He was born on October 21, 1943, in Phillips, the son of Frank and Mamie (LaRose) Voda.
He spent his early life and schooling in Phillips where he graduated from Phillips High School, Class of 1961. He served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne in Germany from 1961 to 1964.
He was married to Rae Jean Hegg on April 2, 1965, in Phillips. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage. Following their marriage he was employed as a firefighter by the City of Rockford, Ill., until 1969. They then made their home in Phillips where he was employed by Marquip from 1969 until the time of his retirement in 2005.
Following his retirement he enjoyed working at various projects. .
In his free time he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Rae Jean, Phillips, by 2 sons: Randy (Lisa), Manitowoc and Scott (Jennifer) , Spencer, by 5 grandchildren: Tyler, Alexa, Adam, Emily(Jake) and Elizabeth, by 2 great grandchildren: Colin and Jackson, and by 2 sisters: Sandra (Bob) Barber, Phillips, and Sylvia Howard, Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by 2 sisters and 2 brothers:
A memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, with Pastor Matthew Arneson of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post #5778, and the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post #122, both of Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, Mar. 9, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is in charge of the arrangements.
