DAVID LEE ‘COACH’ JENSEN
David Lee “Coach” Jensen, 82, Prentice, died on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at the Aspirus Care and Rehab Center, Medford, after a courageous battle with cancer He was born on May 16, 1933, in Sheboygan, Wi., the son of Wallace and Marion (Johnson) Jensen. He spent his early life and schooling in Sheboygan where he attended and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1951. He then attended and graduated from U.W. LaCrosse with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He was married to Virginia Conner Gellner on January 30, 1960, in Prentice.
He was a physical education teacher and coach at Prentice High School from 1957 until the time of his retirement. While a teacher and coach at the high school he was actively involved in all sports including football, basketball, volleyball, track, and softball but most notably for football. Following his retirement he was involved with golf course management for many years at the Prentice Pines Golf Course, and was selected as the Parade Marshal for Prentice Progress Days in 2015.
He was a member of St/ John the Baptist Catholic Church, Prentice where he served in many church offices, a charter member of the Prentice Lions Club, and the Thursday Men’s League at Prentice Pines Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Virginia, Prentice, by 3daughters Debra (Douglas) Dahlke, Weston, Darla (Keith) Pokela, Cottage Grove, Minn., and Dawn (Ricky) Jones, Prentice, by 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 1 sister Carol Wallace.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Prentice High School, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Prentice Cemetery, Prentice. Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Prentice High School. Military Honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County VFW Post #8491.
A memroial fund has been established for a scholarship in David's name and to St. John the Baptist catholic Church, Prentice.
The Heindl Funeral Home, Prentice is in charge of the arrangements.
