Della B. Wadell, age 102, passed away Friday, October 26, 2007 at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill.
The eldest of eight children, Della was born in Dane County, Wisconsin on September 3, 1905 to Fred and Marie (Kirsten) Buchanan. After living at Lodi and New Diggings, the family moved to the Tomahawk area in 1923. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1926.
After many years of summer school at Stevens Point Teacher's College, she obtained her degree in elementary education. Her first teaching position was at the one room Rell School, southwest of Tomahawk. She also taught at several rural schools including Fulsher School and ended her career at the Tomahawk Elementary School.
Della was married to Edmund Wadell in July of 1946 and after their retirement they enjoyed many road trips all over the United States. She had many hobbies and she especially enjoyed teaching them to her homemakers group and the many other organizations she was involved with, including the neighborhood children.
Reading and studying God's word was her favorite pastime and she continued teaching Sunday School well into her 90's. Her main concern was that others, especially her family would know the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior, as she had come to know Him.
She had a very positive attitude about everything, always finding something good in every situation. Because of this attitude, and the help of her many friends, she was able to live alone in her home until after her 101st birthday.
Della was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church for many years and in the past few years had worshiped with the Tomahawk Community Church.
Della is survived by her Sister, Sylvia Nichols of San Antonio, Texas and a step Son, Edmund (Marion) Wadell, Jr. of Murrieta, California. She is further survived by several Step Grandchildren and Great Step Grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Della was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edmund, a step daughter, Irene Leopold, 3 Brothers, Bill, Maurice and Bert Buchanan, 3 Sisters, Vera Musch, Rosa Manthey and Catherine Olson.
