Dennis Hinterleitner, (Hinty) age 77 of Tomahawk passed away following complications from an aneurysm on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Wausau Aspirus Hospital.
Denny was born on May 3, 1945, in Tomahawk to Louis and Grace(Gallagher) Hinterleitner. Denny graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1964. While he was in high school, he enjoyed all sports but especially football and basketball. After graduating from high school, Denny moved to Milwaukee. He loved everything to do with the outdoors, so he moved back to Tomahawk and spent the rest of his life living in either Tomahawk or Wausau. He was formerly married to Linda Hinterleitner (Anderson). Together they had two daughters Tina and Teri. Dad and partner, Sharon Schneider, enjoyed living in Tomahawk and spending time with family. For 29 years he was employed as a lineman for GTE. He was a hard worker and was able to retire when he was 51. In retirement, he and Sharon wintered in New Mexico. He loved hiking the mountains and waking up to see the sun every day. Denny lived for hunting; his true passion was bowhunting. He also loved spending time in the duck blind behind his house with his son-in-law, grandson, and their yellow labs. He was a member of the Rib Mountain Bowmen Archery Club and the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association for 55 years. He volunteered for many different organizations, but especially enjoyed the times he taught young people the joy of archery. Denny’s Dad taught him to love the woods; they logged together many years and Denny continued to log until recently. Family was one of his greatest joys. He loved time spent on Rocky Road, 4th of July parties, Sunday chicken dinners and all holidays. He will be remembered for his smile, for always lending a helping hand, his loyalty to family and friends, the fact that he never spoke a bad word about anyone, and never showing anger. He was always happy to see you and often paid you the compliment, “you sure look nice today”.
Denny will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Tina (Terry) Ellenbecker, Fond du lac, and Teri (Darryl) Goebel, Pine City, MN. Four grandchildren, Jaryd (Emily) Ellenbecker, Kacie (Cody) Ahrens, Chloe and Sophie Goebel, one great grandchild, Porter Ahrens and another arriving
just in time for hunting season. Denny is further survived by his brothers, Terry (Ruth) Hinterleitner, Frank (Nancy) Hinterleitner, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Christensen, cousins, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LeRoy, former wife, Linda and partner, Sharon.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00AM on Monday, August 15, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Visitation will take place from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Sunday evening, August 14 at Krueger Family Funeral Home.
