Dennis Leland Hartmann, age 71, of Prentice, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Agrace Hospice in Madison, WI after a seven week stay at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee where he battled against Multiple Myeloma, cancer of plasma cells.
He was born September 5, 1950, at Lapham Maternity in Phillips to Ralph and Lela (Stade) Hartmann. He graduated from Prentice High School, class of 1968. He continued his education at North Central Technical Institute-Wausau. In 1971, he received his Associate Degree in Mechanical Design and then moved to Mosinee with his first wife, Cathy & his oldest daughter Rebecca (1971) to begin working for Schuld Manufacturing. His second daughter, Tracy came along in 1975 and by the spring of 1976, his childhood love of farming had drawn him back to his hometown area where he settled on a dairy farm in Brantwood. He farmed & logged this land for 11 years. During this time, he divorced and then met the love of his life, Walda (Hills)(Parisi) and her son, Joe. They married on July 23, 1983, blending their families together and making Joe, the son of his heart. They then grew their family by welcoming their daughter, Ashley (1985) & their son, Matthew (1988). In 1987, he settled his family in their current home on Old 8 Rd in Prentice. Here he watched his five children grow, worked alongside his brothers, Duke & Dale in construction to establish the reputable Hartmann “Family” Construction business until he retired in 2015, if one could call him retired. While working in construction and throughout his “retirement” he proceeded to add additions & renovate all his children’s homes ensuring they were comfortable & cared for as they grew their own families. His children have blessed him with 11 grandchildren which were his pride & joy.
In his free time, he loved everything sports related. He enjoyed playing sports from a very young age and throughout his life including football, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, and bowling. He enjoyed watching sports, including his beloved WI teams (Badgers, Packers, Brewers) and he especially enjoyed watching his children & grandchildren’s activities.
He loved his community and volunteered his time on so many things they cannot all be listed. He was on the Prentice School Board for 28 years, was a referee, umpire or official for more than 30 years, a member of the Lions Club, Jaycee, & Optimist groups over the years. He would lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 38 years, Walda; his daughters, Rebecca & Tracy Hartmann of Watertown, Ashley (Tim) Gunderman of Chili, his sons, Joe (Amy) Parisi of Prentice, Matt (Megan) Hartmann of Brooklyn, WI; grandchildren, Tyler Parisi of Muskego, Hanna Parisi of Tallahassee, FL, Mia Parisi of Watertown, Logan Parisi of Tomah, Chloe Parisi of Medford, Leysa Miner of Watertown, Henry, Harlan & Ada Gunderman of Chili, Mabel & Malone Hartmann of Brooklyn, WI; siblings, Duke (Ann) Hartmann, Dale (Kristin) Hartmann, Dorie Anklam, all of Prentice; sister-in-law, Bev Hartmann of Prentice; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the community of Prentice that he so loved.
