Dorothy Wanish, 88, formerly of Catawba, died September 14, 2022, at the Rib Lake Health Care Center. She was born December 31, 1933, in Ogema, WI to Arvid & Lillian (Matson) Anderson. After losing her mother as an infant, she was raised by various aunts & uncles in the Ogema area. She also spent several years with relatives in Chicago.
Dorothy attended Ring School in the Town of Hill & graduated from Prentice High School in 1951 as salutatorian. She was married to Wallace Wanish on December 31, 1951. They lived in Chicago, IL prior to moving to Catawba after purchasing a family farm in 1952.
After retiring from the farm in 1980, Dorothy & Wally enjoyed traveling. They operated an overnight campground together for several years. Dorothy was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving as treasurer for many years, as well as a member of the Catawba Cemetery Association. In addition to working on the farm, Dorothy was employed 15 years at Norco Windows in Hawkins. She loved watching fastpitch softball games, attending athletic events where her grandchildren participated, & celebrating birthdays & other events with her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching & listening to a certain Elvis tribute artist. In her later years Dorothy resided in Medford, Marshfield, & most recently Rib Lake.
Dorothy is survived by three children: Jill Arndt (Lynn) of Kennan, Kenneth (Nancy), & Loren (Jody), all of Catawba. Survived also by 6 grandchildren: Kimberly (Jason) Wudi of Eau Claire, Weston (Abbey) Arndt of Baldwin, Kylie (Jarrett) Knutson of Ogema, Kurt (Stephanie Sanchez) Wanish of Catawba, Justine Wanish of Wausau, & Lindsey (Steven) Warnick of Guernsey, IA. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Layla & Sophia Wudi; Kingston, Kinsley, & Kennasyn Arndt; Presley & Violet Warnick. Also survived by many other relatives & friends.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, husband Wallace in 1986; brothers Elwood & Emmett, & sister Emolyn Wendtorf; granddaughter Cassandra.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, W9256 US HWY Catawba, WI 54530, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, with Pastor Hailey Halmstad officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Inurnment will be at the Catawba Cemetery. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
