Phillips

Earl F. Dorow, of Phillips, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI, at the age of 90. Earl was born on April 18, 1934, on the family farm in Dale, WI, to Franklin and Anna (Giebel) Dorow. As a young boy, his family moved to Oshkosh, WI, where he attended Oshkosh schools until the age of 17 when he enlisted in the US Army. He was deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he received his GED. In 1952 he was deployed to Korea where he was awarded the Silver Star for bravery in battle. After returning from Korea, he met and married Susan A Leuthold on August 11, 1956, in Oshkosh. They later divorced. He then married Nancy F. Von Holzen on May 12, 1973 in Kellner, WI. They moved to Minocqua in the fall of 1976 and remained there until his wife’s health declined in 2001 at which time they moved to Phillips.

He was employed by Bergstrom Paper Company, Neenah, WI, for several years prior to becoming an over-the-road truck driver. He visited 48 of the 50 states and several provinces of Canada during his years of driving. After his retirement from truck driving, he drove a school bus for the Lakeland Area Bus Service in Woodruff and later for the Phillips School District.

In Earl’s free-time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and Packer games. He especially loved reading books by Louis L’Amour and Zane Gray. Time spent with his grandchildren was special, especially when they were tinkering with something, and they loved his sense of humor. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Phillips.

He is survived by his children — Mark (Valerie) Dorow, Fond du Lac, WI; Kathie Luttrell (Steve Koehler) Oshkosh, WI; Michael (Nancy) Dorow, Tomahawk, WI; and step-daughter Tammy Dallmann, Arbor Vitae, WI. He is also survived by one brother Richard (Diane) Dorow of Haymarket, Virginia. Earl was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Anna Dorow; his wife, Nancy Dorow; sisters Beatrice Werner, Audrey Fenrich, and Kristine Dorow; brother-in-laws, Herbert (Fritz) Werner, Guy Fenrich, Bruce Van Natta, Jim Van Natta, Daniel Van Natta, and Allen Van Natta; Sister-in-laws Margie Blatt, and Betty Herr; and step-daughter Rene Von Holzen.

A memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Phillips WI. on Saturday August 17, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00, service at 11:00, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place following the luncheon at Arpin, WI.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of Ainsworth Hall - Floor 1 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, for their loving and compassionate care provided to Earl throughout his time there. A sincere thank you is also extended to Alan and Kathy Pipcorn for the love and devotion they showed Earl throughout his illness. God bless you.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
