Edmund Kot

Rev. Edmund S. Kot, age 93, formerly of Tomahawk, passed away September 21, 2010 in Colorado. Edmund was born September 11, 1917 in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Victoria (Sczcesna) Kot. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago, where he served as Class President his senior year. Edmund was a Master Sergeant and medic in the U.S. Army, with four of the five battle stars from the European Theatre for WWII. He was honored by the French government for his help and service in liberating France. Taking advantage of the G.I. bill, he graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Later Edmund attended graduate school at Maywood Seminary and was ordained in the spring of 1960. Rev. Kot began his ministry in 1960 at a church in Rock Grove, Illinois, and also at a church on the Wisconsin/Illinois border. He then served in south central Illinois. In the mid 1960s, Rev. Kot and his family moved to Merrill, where he was the Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, also serving the Irma location. He was later transferred to Winter, WI where he spearheaded building a new church. His last congregational call was to Range, WI. Rev. Kot retired to Tomahawk in August 1983, where he continued to serve as supply pastor to Grace Lutheran Church and churches in Ogema, Phillips, and elsewhere in northern and north central Wisconsin. Earlier this year, Rev. Kot celebrated 50 years as an ordained Lutheran minister. Rev. Kot had many interests. He joined his first Boy Scout Troop when he was twelve years old, was a registered Boy Scout for over 80 years, was a Boy Scout executive for thirteen years, and a Scoutmaster in Merrill for seven years. Some of his pastimes included: volunteering, woodworking, camping, sightseeing, artwork, stamp collecting, swimming, boating, reading, golfing, and meeting new people with a true interest in getting to know them. Survivors include: Daughters Leslie (Harold) Noyes Golden, Colorado Christine (Scott W. Coey) Kot Tomahawk Son Mark (Linda) Kot Rock Springs, Wyoming Sister Dr. Harriet Held Decatur, Illinois A Memorial Service with Military Rites for Rev. Edmund Kot will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 from Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Bishop James Justman will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on the 16th from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in the Town of Birch.
