Elaine F. Kahn, age 94, of Tomahawk, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Golden Living Center, Golden Age, in Tomahawk under the care of AseraCare Hospice care and the staff of Golden Age. Elaine was born April 6, 1920 in Mosinee, Wisconsin to George and Ann (Dolly Redmond) Riedel. Her family moved to Tomahawk in the 1930's. After graduation from Tomahawk High School, Elaine attended Business School in Minneapolis, MN. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in St. Paul, MN, and Wausau, WI. Elaine worked as a CNA and office professional for Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk from 1968 until her retirement. She was united in marriage to Patrick Stone in 1942 in at St. Joseph's Church in San Diego,CA. Patrick was killed in air combat during World War II. Their daughter, Kate Stone, of Milwaukee survives. Elaine was united in marriage to Eldred Kahn on May 20, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Eldred preceded Elaine in death on August 20, 2000. She was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She taught religious education, and took great comfort in her spirituality. Elaine was a founder and leader of the Moon Spinners 4-H group. She was an active member and officer of the Tomahawk Historical Society. She was a wonderful baker and cook, gaining fame with her roast beef sandwiches and Tom & Jerry's that were served at Kahn's Bar in downtown Tomahawk, which she and Eldred owned and operated from 1947-1963. She loved music, especially show tunes, was a voracious reader, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Elaine is survived by sister, Rita (Jim) Sparbel of Tomahawk; Children, Kate Stone, Milwaukee, WI; Marcia (Rex) Schultrich, St. Paul, MN; Virginia "Gigi" (Ed) Bowles, Tomahawk, WI and St. Augustine, FL; Betty (Jim) McCluskey, Tomahawk, WI; Charlie (Bonnie) Kahn, Tomahawk, WI; Jim (Robin) Kahn, LaPorte, CO; and Laura (David) Palmer, London, England. She is further survived by her five Grandchildren: Kevin (Tiffany) Kahn, Keegan Kahn, Rick (Angelica) Schultrich, Gwen (Harold) Kachelmeyer, and Colleen McCluskey, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Patrick, and their daughter, Nanette; her husband, Eldred; brother, Robert (Ann) Riedel; sisters Kate (John) Kelley, Marge (Frank) O'Brien, MaryAnn (Lloyd) Leighton, and Irene (Eugene) Barradas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Elaine on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church. Fr. John Anderson and Fr. Arthur Redmond will concelebrate the Mass. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 until 6 p.m with a parish rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of mass at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be a Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Memorials may be sent to the Tomahawk Area Historical Society or to St. Mary's Catholic School.
