Elizabeth “Betty” Hilmer Elizabeth “Betty” (Vosen) Hilmer passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Arbor Vitae. Betty was born on December 23, 1925 in LaValle, WI to Joseph and Hilda (Nussbaum) Vosen. She was a fighter from the moment she was born. Born at only 2 lbs, she was placed in a shoe box on the back of the family wood stove. She survived and lived 88 long, wonderful years. She met and married Marvin R. Hilmer in Beloit, Wi. They were married at St.Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beloit, Wisconsin on June 25, 1949. Marvin and Betty were married for 60 years. She worked as a telephone operator for a number of years before her marriage. After her marriage, she began work with the Freeman Shoe Company as an edge-stitcher and worked there for 35 years. She and Marvin built their retirement home on South Two Lake in Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin in 1975 and moved in permanently in 1986. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with her family. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin of 60 years, in 2009; her brother, Ted, in 1998; her brother, Donald, in 1987; and her mother and father. She was also preceded in death by a son, Keith. Betty is survived by one daughter, Diana (Neal) Hilmer Morris of Arbor Vitae, WI; her sister, Francis Johnson, of Madison; and her brother, Harold Vosen, of Arizona. She is further survived by three grandchildren: Tiffany (Dewi) Morris Webb ; T’Neal (Christopher) Morris Kulesa , and Tyler Morris. She is also survived by the loves of her life, her six great-grandchildren: Carter Kulesa 9, Tanner Webb 8, Wyatt Kulesa 7, Dawson Webb 4, Piper Kulesa 3, and Kenli Kulesa 2. She is further survived by sister in law, Bernadine (Ray) Klute of South Milwaukee, WI , brother in law Ben (Joan) Hilmer of Roscoe, IL, and sister in law Brenda Hilmer of Tomahawk, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at Peace Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae. Services will be at 11:00 on Saturday January 11, 2014. A luncheon will follow immediately in the fellowship hall at the church. Internment will take place following the luncheon at Wilderness Rest Cemetery in Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin.
