Elroy Stroming, 93, died peacefully at home with his family on Friday, July 15, 2011. Elroy was born May 10, 1918 in Fort Ripley, Minnesota. Elroy's family moved to the Tomahawk, Wis. area when he was a young boy. He met his future wife, Mary, while attending confirmation classes at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They were married on June 30, 1937 and lived in the Tomahawk area for the majority of their married life. Elroy began working as an electrician at Kraft Paper Mill shortly after their marriage and continued at the mill until he retired in 1982. He served in the Army during World War II and was a life member of the American Legion. During their married life, Elroy and Mary enjoyed doing many things together; camping trips, snowmobiling, square dancing and traveling. They visited almost every state and parts of Europe. In 2008, they moved to Marinette to be closer to their family. Elroy is survived by: Son, Elroy A. (Judy) Stroming Marinette, WI Grandsons, Mark (Debbie) Stroming Michael (Kay) Wrege; Granddaughters, Kelly (Al) Hogen Michelle Lytle; He is further survived by nine great-grandchildren, David Hogen, Amber Hogen, Matthew Wrege, Andrew Wrege, Brandon Lytle, Blake Lytle, Austin Stroming, Walker Stroming and Weston Stroming. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a special friend, Joanne Wrege. Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, August Carl Stroming and Anna (nee Landwere) Stroming; his wife of 73 years, Mary (nee Burke) Stroming; one daughter Marlene "Mitzi" Wrege; five sisters, Mary (Theodore) Masa, Ann (LeRoy) Biesterfield, Irene (Edward) Wadell, Lillie (Arnold) Torkenson and Ella (Fred) Buckhorn; and three brothers, Edward (Lora) Stroming, August (Lila) Stroming and Raymond (Ruth) Stroming. A memorial service with military rites will be held for Elroy Stroming will be held at Krueger Family Funeral Home in Tomahawk at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, followed by interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial in Elroy and Mary's name at Faith Lutheran Pre-School Scholarship Fund in Marinette, WI. Both of them were concerned for and loved the little children.
