Elvera Hoglund Pelikan passed away November 14, 2007 at Golden Living Center - Golden Age in Tomahawk. Born March 22, 1915 the daughter of the late Karolina and Joseph Hoglund. Survived by a brother Werner (Jeanette) Hoglund of Tomahawk and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 2 sisters - Olga and Elizabeth, and 3 brothers - Albert, Arthur, and John.
Elvera married Ted Pelikan August 12, 1967. He passed away November 27, 1980.
Elvera graduated from Garfield School of Nursing and Riverwood School of Anesthesiology in Chicago. She was Dr. R.J. Henderson's Head Nurse at Riverview Hospital for many years. Following the closing of Riverview Hospital in Tomahawk (which is now Riverview Nursing Home), she was employed with Dr. Dubacke in Houston, Texas, where she assisted with the first plastic aortic heart surgery. She later moved to Milwaukee where she was a Nurse Anesthetist at St. Luke's Hospital. She retired in 1980 and moved back to Tomahawk.
Elvera was a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards, and entertaining family and friends.
Funeral Services for Elvera Pelikan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007 from Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Rev. Mark Ziemer will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk.
