Eugene Joseph Pierce

November 11, 1927 — February 17, 2024

Minocqua

Eugene Joseph Pierce (Pirc), 96, of Minocqua passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Gene was born November 11, 1927, in Joliet, Illinois. In 1981, he married Gwen D. Gramera, and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2018. Gene worked as a dispatcher at ComEd in Joliet before retiring and moving to Minocqua in 1983. He is survived by a step-daughter, Nancy S. Finch, and two stepsons, David W. Blatti and Richard L. Blatti. His ashes will be buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois. No service is scheduled.

Gene made an impact in his daily travels throughout our community. He was a devout Catholic, active at St. Anthony’s church in LDF, was the local Salvation Army kettle manager, reverent and diligent with both. His colorful history and vibrant good health combined to make him a presence with all he came into contact with. At age 96, Gene demanded his independence as he drove to accomplish his daily responsibilities and connect with friends. Gene lived and breathed St. Louis Cardinal baseball. He loved music, DJ’d a radio show at WXPR. He loved life, telling stories, cracking a joke, and laughing out loud at the punchline before he told it. He loved and missed his wife Gwen.

Gene’s Northwoods friends create a colorful picture of Gene with words:

Loyal, punctual, humorist, clock smith, a real prince of a man, super nice guy, enjoyed his company, a great man, sometimes a pain but in a good way-couldn’t help but love the guy, delightful ray of sunshine, never stopped smiling, a giant presence of a man, always good for a smile and a story, a good guy -glad he came into my life, snappy, quick wit, sharp as a whip, grumpy till you knew him, a man of faith, generous, world class archer, dedicated, baseball/football fan, collector, great to talk to, lineman, great penmanship, holiday cards, kind, caring, Rosaries, unbendable, moth balls, jokes, joyful tears, faithful to God and receiving the sacraments.

Friend.

We all miss you Gene!
