Eunice Oertli, age 92, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Golden Living-Riverview Nursing Home.
Eunice was born in Viroqua, on May 29, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Zeller) Gronning. She graduated from Viroqua High School and later from LaCrosse State Teacher’s College with her Bachelor’s Degree. Eunice taught at Tomah High School for two years and at Roundup, Montana High School for two years. On July 19, 1949, she married Robert Oertli; together they had 3 children. Bob & Eunice had lived in Sault St. Marie, Michigan, Rhinelander & Tomahawk. Eunice is a member at Grace Lutheran Church, where she was the former secretary and treasurer for the Women of Grace; she also served on the Altar Guild, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher; she attended Bible Study Classes; and was a member of the Quilters, Ruth Circle and made numerous baptism towels and altar banners. Although Eunice was a homemaker after her children were born, she volunteered her time at many children’s activities; Job’s Daughters, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and PTA.
Eunice is survived by her children – Kathryn (James) Cormany, of Milwaukee, Barbara (Dayton) Reuter, of New York and Charles (Karrie) Oertli, of Port Edwards; sister – Doris Hanson, of Viroqua; and brother – Arthur (Dorothy) Gronnig, of Reedstown, WI. She is further survived by one grandson – Mason Oertli and a niece – Georgia Jeffrey, of Rio Vista, California. Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
The Funeral Service for Eunice Oertli will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Ziemer will officiate. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 9:00AM until the time of service at Noon. Burial will take in the Viroqua Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to Grace Lutheran Church.
