Francis "Jack" Gano, age 90, formerly of the Irma area, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at the Golden Living-Riverview Center in Tomahawk. Jack was born on August 29, 1919 in Tacoma, Washington to Marion and Fern Gano. He married Daisy "Sodie" Buschmann on October 3, 1938 in Tomahawk, she passed away in 2002. Jack served his country in the US Army during World War II, serving with the 321st Combat Engineer Battalion, 96th Division. He served in the Pacific Philippines Campaign, including Okinawa. He had been employed at Wire Products in Merrill for many years, he also was a longtime supervisor at Tomahawk Sand & Gravel, and he was a co-owner of a logging business with Dude Thayer for many years. Jack was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Irma and was currently a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Jack enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, casino's, country music and was a great storyteller.

3 sons, James (Sandra) Gano Irma Patrick (Cheryl) Gano Merrill Mark (Christine) Gano Merrill 2 Daughters, Gail (Carl) Menebroeker Tomahawk Sharon Jones Tomahawk 2 Sisters, Reta Silas Florida Darlene Annis Florida Jack is further survived by 12 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sodie, 2 Brothers, and 3 Sisters. Funeral Services for Francis "Jack" Gano will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. The family will receive friends at the Krueger & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. with a Military Tribute service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call again on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at the church. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery in the town of Birch with Military Honors.
