FRANKLIN KLAWITER
Franklin Paul Klawiter, 92, Phillips, died at his home on Wednesday, January 13, while under the care of his family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on March 8, 1923, the son of Frank and Clara (Toske) Klawiter. He attended and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St Olaf where he studied chemistry, physics, theology, and physics. He later attended UW-Superior where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education, and attended many NSF Summer Science Institutes. He was married to Betty Amundson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on August 29, 1948. He taught school in Cromwell, Minnesota, and then later at Phillips High School from 1952 until the time of his retirement in 1985, and with Joan Raskie, taught many Summer classes. He served his country in the U.S. Navy Naval Air Force during WWII. He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church of Phillips, and of the American Legion. In his free time he was a Master Vintner, enjoyed casino trips, going out to eat, and visiting and joking with his friends.
He is survived by two children, Dianne (David) Rasmussen, Fall Creek, WI, and Mark, Phillips; by two grandchildren, Alison and Aaron (Sarah); and by one great granddaughter, Margot. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on December 29, 1990; by one brother, Waldimar; and by two sisters, Violet and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 18, at Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips with Reverent Thomas Reiff officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Frank and Michael Baran V.F.W. Post No. 5778 and the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
