Fred E. Borem, age 97, of 10094 Prairie Rapids Road, Tomahawk, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home.
Fred was born on February 28, 1914 in Shelby, Indiana to Walter and Glada (Sanderson) Borem. He moved from Indiana to the town of Cassian in his late teens. He married Dorothy White on April 20, 1934 in Rhinelander. Dorothy preceded him in death in 1989. Fred and Dorothy farmed for many years, he later was employed for the Soo Line Railroad for 38 years. In his younger years Fred loved to hunt, fish, and play pool. Later In life he enjoyed telling stories about the old days. He always told the story of being the first person to pay his taxes in the newly formed town of Nokomis. He was very proud to have contributed to the town of Nokomis 60th Anniversary book.

He is further survived by 14 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 14 Great Great Grandchildren, a brother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, 3 brothers, a sister, and 2 grandsons.
Funeral Services for Fred E. Borem will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Pastor Larry Mathein will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Rapids Cemetery in the town of Nokomis.
The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
