Fritz Mattern

Fritz B. Mattern, age 81, Tomahawk, passed away July 12, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Golden Age in Tomahawk. Fritz was born December 12, 1927 in Germany, the son of Bruno and Klara (Glumm) Mattern. He a Veteran of the German Army, and after moving to the United States in 1951, served in the U.S. Army. He married Inge Windmueller on June 12, 1954 in Germany. Fritz worked as a Transportation Manager and Bus Mechanic for the Leyden School System in Illinois for 30 years. He moved to Tomahawk in 2004, where he had been residing at Golden Living Center - Golden Age. He enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: Wife Inge Mattern Hoffman Estates, Illinois 3 daughters Monica Mattern Tomahawk Diane Davis Anita (Mark) Meuche both of McHenry, Illinois 4 grandchildren Angela (Jeff) Swenson-Holzinger Altoona Jason Swenson Brantwood Jessica Davis Kingston, Illinois Alex Davis McHenry, Illinois 1 Great Grandchild Lauren Holzinger Anchorage, Alaska Fritz was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister - Friedel Schloemp. A Memorial Service for Fritz Mattern will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009 from Grace Lutheran Church. A Veteran Tribute will precede the Service. Rev. Rebecca Peters will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until the hour of services at 8:00 p.m. Memorials are appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association.
