Dr. George 'Toby' Theiler, age 84, of Tomahawk and Alamo, Texas, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at UW Hospital in Madison. Dr. Toby was born March 30, 1929 in Tomahawk, the son of George J. and Vera (Chamberlain) Theiler. Dr. Toby was a graduate of the UW Madison School of Medicine, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. He was Phi Beta Kappa and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also played trombone in the UW marching band. Dr. Toby served as captain in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker in Alabama from 1957 - 1959. His greatest pleasures in life were cooking, gardening, and the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp with cousins and friends. The opening of fishing season and Canadian fishing trips were also special events in his life. Green Bay was Dr. Toby's home during his medical practice years. Retirement brought him back to his roots in Tomahawk for the summer months, and Alamo, Texas when the snow began to fall. Dr. Toby made many generous donations to the St. Mary's Legacy Fund, Music on the River Pavilion, and also a land donation for a park in Mayville, resulting in the park being named, 'Theiler Park'. Survivors include, sisters, Jane Klawitter, Mayville, Marguerite Bachhuber, Green Bay. Dr. Toby is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial with full Military Honors for Dr. Toby Theiler will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Father John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the St. Mary's Endowment Fund.
