Gertrude 'Gert' Novitzke, age 90, 2 S. 7th St., Tomahawk, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at her residence under the care of Ministry Home Hospice. Gert was born April 27, 1922 in the Town of Hewitt, the daughter of Robert and Ella (Henkelman) Kurth. She married Robert 'Whoopee Bob' Novitzke on August 3, 1945 in Champaign, Illinois; he passed away on July 22, 2001. Gert was formerly employed by Wausau Dry Cleaners, the St. Mary's Catholic School hot lunch program, and the Tomahawk Leader for 19 years, retiring in 1987. She and her husband organized polka dances for senior citizens for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion, and a former member of Curves. Gert loved to dance, walk, knit, and bake. Survivors include: Daughters Denise Novitzke Santa Fe, New Mexico Dorene (Dennis) Tyczynski Tomahawk Daughter-in-law Jamie Novitzke Merrill Brother Adolph (Jean) Kurth Rib Mountain Sisters Selma Sokie Weston Ella Doering Wausau Deloris (Lloyd) Geurink Wausau Grandchildren Dustin (Felicia Zastrow) Novitzke Wausau Jonathan (Krystal) Novitzke Wausau Angela (Tony) Hendrickson Merrill Step-grandchildren Tony (Laura) Tyczynski and Ann (Michael) Parker Great-grandchildren Devin, Abel & Jolene Novitzke, Owen Novitzke, and Dante & Nevaeh Hendrickson Gert is further survived by five step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son - Dennis, and four sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial for Gert Novitzke will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. Edward Powell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home on Monday August 13th from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service to begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau.
