GLORIA GEHRING
Gloria Lorraine Carlson Gehring, 91, Phillips, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was born in Phillips, Wisconsin, on August 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary (Calhoun) Carlson. She attended the 8 grades at Phillips Public School, and then Phillips High School where she was a 1941 graduate. In 1951 she met Paul Gehring, the love of her life. They were married in the First Presbyterian Church in Phillips on December 15, 1951, and they spent 60 wonderful years together. She worked in her mother’s restaurant, “Mary’s Café”, and later worked for 18 years as a Department Matron and Jail Cook at the Price County Jail. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Phillips and of the Guild. In her free time she enjoyed reading, singing, knitting, and spending time with her family, above all she loved the Lord. She was a wonderful caring member of her community. She touched many lives with he love and her caring heart.
She is survived by four children, Stephanie (Ben Zaring) Wright, Shelbyville, KY, Bradley (Kay) Gehring, Hudson, WI, Monte (Donna) Gehring, Wausau, and Terra (Steven) Gastmann, Phillips; by 8 grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Carter, Wausau, Rachel (Bill) McCormick, Phillips, Lauren (Chris) Weber, Phillips, Jenna (Adam Steinmann) Gehring, DePere, WI, Hannah (Jesse) Heinz, Phillips, Paul (Elvira) Gehring, Hudson, Ethan Gastmann, North Carolina, David Gehring, Hudson, WI, and by 3 great grandchildren.
Shewas preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on October 26, 2011; by one infant sister, Elaine, by two sisters, Mary Ellen Stoll and Evalyn Jackson; by one brother, Robert Carlson; and by her first husband, Norman Swikert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 20, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Pastor Matthew Arneson of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
