Gretchen W. Podhora

Gretchen W. Podhora, 93, of Phillips, passed away on July 18, 2020, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls, WI. Gretchen was born in Fond du Lac, WI, on August 6/1926, a daughter to Lewis G. and Thelma (Mauthe) Widell.
She was a high school graduate of Fond du Lac High School Class of 1944, attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, Marion College in Fond du Lac, WI, and graduated from Ripon College with majors in History and Education and minors in English and Science. Gretchen taught High School in Boscobel, WI, and in Phillips, WI.
Gretchen married William Podhora on June 7, 1952. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the church choir, the Westminster Society, chairperson for the Price County Red Cross Blood Mobile for 38 years, and was named Citizen of the Year in 1996. She was also a member of the Pleasant View Auxillary, the Retired American Legion Auxiliary, the Teachers Association as well as the Substitute Teachers Association.
Gretchen is survived by daughters: Pamela (Steven) Walstedter of Spring Hill, FL, Madeline (David) Thibault of Northfield, MN; sons, Lewis (Diane) Podhora of Phillips, WI, and Curtis of Hartselle, AL; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and granddaughter, Stephanie.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Two Lakes Cemetery, County Highway H, Bayview Dr, Phillips, WI 54555, with Pastor Carol Gabrielsen officiating. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
