Harvey Nelson, 84, N11910 Nokomis Drive, Tomahawk, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 26, 2013, surrounded by his family. Harvey was born January 22, 1929 in Prentice, the son of the late Arthur and Sadie (Hermanson) Nelson. He was a graduate of Prentice High School. From 1951-1954 he served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp during the Korean wartime. On August 8, 1964, he married Janice Deering in Fullerton, North Dakota, then moved to Tomahawk to build a home and start a family. Harvey was a jack of all trades. He built a cabin on Lake Nokomis, and then proceeded to build his future lake home. During this time he was blessed with two children; Craig in 1965 and Julie in 1967. Harvey worked as a truck driver for Heikkinen Bros., and as a mechanic for both Tomahawk Sand & Gravel and Taystee Bakery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the woods, shearing Christmas trees and having coffee with the boys. He also liked being captain of his pontoon and watching wildlife from his front bay window. In 1994 Harvey retired. He had many good years of retirement. He traveled to Las Vegas, fished in Canada as well as took an Alaskan cruise and spent time with his grandchildren. He attended some Packers games and also loved watching football and CNN from his favorite recliner. Harvey was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed being a Sunday greeter. In addition to his wife, Jan, Harvey is survived by his son, Craig (Ann) Nelson of Wausaukee and daughter Julie (Brendan) Moss of Appleton, three grandchildren, Brianna, Jenna and Nathan Moss. He is also survived by his brother Ralph (Janice) Nelson, Waukesha and sister in law, Norene Nelson, Cottage Grove, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Donna Nelson and Ilene Heikkinen, and brothers, Robert and Jim Nelson. A Funeral Service with Military Rites for Harvey Nelson will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3rd at Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Rev. Mark Ziemer will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2nd at the Krueger Family Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., and again on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Riverview Nursing Home in Tomahawk.
