Hilda Peterson

Hilda Peterson, 87, of Catawba passed away peacefully at her home on July 21, 2023, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Medford. She was born on March 16, 1936, to Archie and Viola (Gillett) Mabie in Kennan, WI.

After she graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1955, Hilda worked for the State of Minnesota until she married Donald Peterson. They were wed on August 8, 1959, in South St. Paul, Minnesota. After their marriage, they started their family in Catawba, Wisconsin. For many years, Hilda was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Catawba Cemetery Association. She also worked for the School District of Phillips. She was a loyal member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed making greeting cards for her loved ones and the church shut ins. She loved to spend her time with her family, tending to her garden, knitting, crocheting, and watching the hummingbirds.

She is survived by her children, Rae Jean (Tim) Walker of Red Rock, AZ, Mark (Char) of Grafton, WI, Todd of Catawba, WI, Gail of Wausau, WI, and Lynn Kanneberg of Colby, WI; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Miller of Virginia, Lillian Rodano of Wyoming, Joyce Ann (Bonnie) Reed of Colorado; brother-in-law, John Wojtowicz of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; sister, Evelyn Wojtowicz; grandson, Kyle; brothers-in-law, Joseph Miller, and Joseph Rodano.

There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church, W9256 US Highway 8, Catawba, WI 54515. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. and continue until the start of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Catawba Cemetery Association, Bethany Lutheran Church, or Hope Hospice, are appreciated. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
