Howard "Barney" Denoyer

Howard Earl (Barney) DeNoyer, age 91, Minocqua barber for over sixty years. Died on Friday, March 8th at his residence. Barney was born February 10, 1922 to Florence (McKillips) and Earl DeNoyer, Barney graduated from Minocqua High School where he was an outstanding athlete. His nickname, Barney, came from the comic strip character, Barney Google, because of his beautiful, big blue eyes. Barney proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the 38th Infantry Division, the "Avengers of Bataan". On January 18, 1947, he married Margaret Curran in Wausau, WI, and together they raised eight children: Kathleen (Thomas) Graber, Michael, David (Julie), Mary (Gaylord) Peckman, Beth (Patrick) Schillinger, Barbara (Brent) Wagoner, Janet (John) Krusick, and Amy (James) Hickey who survive him. He is further survived by twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, his brother Eugene (Mike) DeNoyer, and his dear friend and partner, Delores Grebenc and her dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, Florence and Earl, sister Bernita and her husband Quinten Holte, and daughter-in-law Edith DeNoyer. Barney lived in Minocqua nearly his entire life and participated in many organizations. He was a two time past commander of American Legion Post 89, former member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and served on the police commission. Barney loved Minocqua! He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and skiing during his younger days and loved telling jokes and sharing stories with his good friends at Jeff's Auto Service in Woodruff. Services will be held Wednesday, March 13 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff with visitation at 10:00 AM and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Luncheon will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 89 in his honor.
