Inez May Strombom

Inez May Strombom, 93, went home to the Lord and her cherished husband Fred on September 2, 2019 while at Aspirus hospital in Wausau, WI. Inez was born on December 15, 1925 to Alfred Trebil and Harriet (Gardner) Trebil in Clinton, MN.

Inez skipped second grade and graduated in 1942 with a class of 20 students from Clinton High School when she was 16 years old. Inez was involved in many activities while in school, including being a cheerleader. After graduation she had worked as a clerk at the local drug store for five months when she went to Minneapolis to attend the Minnesota – Michigan football game with her sister Ailys, who was a student at the University of MN. She chose to stay in Minneapolis rather than going back home and found work in a law office as a receptionist and typist.

Inez met Fred Strombom at the Wesley Foundation in the First Methodist Church in Minneapolis. He was on a committee she chaired and she was immediately enamored by his charming smile. They started dating in the fall of 1946 and were engaged in November 1947 when Fred proposed while they were flying to Chicago, IL in Fred’s Taylorcraft airplane, to spend Thanksgiving with his family.

Inez and Fred were married on July 10, 1948 in Clinton, MN. For their honeymoon they flew in the Taylorcraft to California, stopping in Monument Valley on their way home. They made their home in Ogema, WI where they raised four children in a home that was full of love and laughter. They were very much in love with each other, and were a wonderful example of a truly happy marriage.

Inez was a very active member of the Ogema Baptist Church for many years, serving as church secretary, singing in the choir, participating in Sewing Club, and attending numerous Bible studies; supported the Ogema community on the Library Board, the Cemetery Board, and as a Lady Lion; and served on the Prentice School District School Board. Inez and Fred owned Strombom’s Farm Equipment, and later S&L Manufacturing, for which she was the office manager, with her desk directly across from Fred’s.

Inez and Fred enjoyed traveling, and together they visited all 50 states and 17 different countries by car, motorhome, plane, ferry (to Alaska), ship and train. She enjoyed reading, needlework, crossword puzzles, playing card games, and spending time with her family and friends. Her smile made everyone feel comfortable, her home cooking was something all of her children and grandchildren looked forward to, and her laugh filled the room with joy. Inez is loved and admired by many family and friends, and is already dearly missed.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband Fred; parents Alfred and Harriett; her father- and mother-in –law Fred and Hulda Strombom; her brothers Leonard Trebil, Edgar (Becky) Trebil, Arnold, and John (Marianne) Trebil; sisters Anna (Harold) Wilson, Alice (Roland) Twogood, and Ailys (Bert) Henningson; nephews John and Raymond Trebil, John Sundberg, Bob Dombrow, and nieces Bonnie Sundberg and Sandy Dombrow.

She is survived by her children Karen (Joel) Parker of Tacoma, WA; Kristen Granzow of Milwaukee, WI; Rick (Sue) Strombom of Merrill, WI; Mari (Brett) Johnson of Fort Collins, CO; Grandchildren Shannon (Randy) Mishun, Stephanie (Craig) Vandaelle; Christopher Granzow, Hannah, Wyatt, and Boden Strombom; Maxwell and Kirkland Johnson; and great grandchildren Sienna, Cody, Carson, and Colton Mishun, and Riley Vandaelle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 6, at the Ogema Baptist Church in Ogema with Pastor Rodney Price officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Ogema. The family will receive friends at the Ogema Baptist Church on Thursday, September 5, starting at 5:30 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
