Isabel Korrer, age 90, formerly of Minocqua, passed away March 5, 2014 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King with her husband at her side. Isabel was born to John and Amy Mandt Firth in Jackson, Michigan on December 8, 1923. Isabel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill. Isabel is also survived by seven children; Bill Jr. “Beep” (Maggie Szostak) of Minocqua, Michael (Jaime) of Fond du Lac, Annie (Jim) Leone of Hazelhurst, Robert “Scooby” (Tina) of West Chester, Ohio, Maggie (Mark) Espeseth of Woodruff, Liz (Doug) Olson of Minocqua, and Patrick of Minocqua; a sister Amy Lu, 15 grandchildren Shannon Korrer, Amber (Neil) Sprangers ), Ashley Korrer, Dr. Michael (Kerry) Korrer, Benjamin (Stephanie) Korrer, Sarah (Lucas) Katzmark, Katie Leone, Robert Korrer, Jr., Samuel Korrer, Molly Korrer, Scott Zeinert, Leslie (Dan) Westerhausen, Katie Zeinert, Becca Zeinert, and Tate Olson. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Amy, John’s second wife Mamie, her brothers John Firth, Robert Firth, James Firth, and sister Mary Jane Clark Bailey. Isabel met Bill in 1946 while she was a student in East Lansing, Michigan at Michigan State College and he was a member of the US Army being mustered out of active duty. They married on August 28, 1948 in Jackson, Michigan. In addition to raising their 7 children, Isabel found time to be a partner with Bill in their businesses in both Fond du Lac and Minocqua. She was a member of the Fond du Lac Children’s Home Board of Directors in addition to being a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother while in Fond du Lac. Together with their family, they operated the Little Minocqua Motel and Minocqua Yacht Club for 18 years. Isabel was on the Lakeland Recreation Association Board, the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and very active in the Lakeland Tavern League. When Bill and Isabel set up their retirement home in Yuma, Arizona, Isabel organized and led water aerobics for the community’s residents. But the one thing that gave Isabel the greatest sense of accomplishment was her being a driving force for hospice fundraising in their retirement community. Isabel was a key organizer of an effort that raised tens of thousands of dollars over their time there. Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, March 13th at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with Celebration of Isabel’s Life at 6:00 PM. Given Isabel’s passion for hospice, the family suggests that you consider a donation to your local hospice organization in lieu of flowers.
