James Andrew Jordan peacefully passed away at home on September 8th, 2017 at the age of 99 years.
James was born April 28, 1918 in Ashland, Wisconsin but home was Mellen, Wisconsin where he grew up and graduated from Mellen High School in 1936. He moved to Wausau to attend Wausau Business College and graduated with a degree in accounting. He worked for several companies and retired from Wausau Steel Corporation after 25 years. He was an active Jaycee and served with the Wausau Auxiliary Police for 30 years.
On August 27th, 1949 he married Harriet Coleman and together they celebrated 68 years of togetherness. Upon retirement he and Harriet moved to Minocqua, Wisconsin. In earlier years, Jim built a summer cabin on Blue Lake for his family and it became their retirement home. In 1988 he joined the Lakeland Community Center and served on the facilities committee and board of directors. He was honored to be named volunteer of the month. He was a charter member of the Wilderness Garden Club and served as treasurer. He made three mission trips to St. Lucia with the Wausau Good News group where his carpentry skills were used in many building projects.
Jim was blessed with a kind and loving spirit and was a devoted husband and father. His love to create with wood inspired his children to be "Do It Yourselfers". He took great pride in all their accomplishments and always was honored when the girls asked him to build something for them or help his sons-in-law with their remodeling projects. He taught them many "tricks of the trade".
He is survived by his wife, Harriet, a son Joseph (Peggy), daughters Mary Young, Nancy (Lee) Ullmann, Teresa (Brian) Colianni and Margaret (Brian) Schwartzbauer and a sister Betty Reiderer and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Arnold) and Joseph Jordan, sister Helen Sailors, brother Lawrence, and son-in-law William Young.
