James Glissendorf

February 23, 1948 — February 21, 2023

James Howard Glissendorf, 74, of Phillips passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023, in Marshfield, WI.

After high school, Jim worked as a meter reader for the electric company. He was then a brakeman for Chicago Northwestern for many years. After being laid off from the railroad he made a fresh start at the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, which he loved doing for many years in Phillips and Madison. Early in his career in Madison, he made quick friends with Tim Felhofer, and his wife Marion, who were the best friends he ever had. Jim also raced cars for a time around the state.

The thing Jim loved the most was his family and spending time with them. He loved all of us with his whole heart. There was nothing that made him happier than to welcome another addition to the family. Jim loved to make people laugh, you couldn't help but join in with his infectious laughter. He liked everyone he met and made many friends because of his warm personality.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Barbara, Christine (Robert) Stanke, Jennifer (Cory) Coughlin, and Jerry (Michele); grandchildren, Dustin (Wilma) Stanke, Dylan (Juanita) Stanke, Sami and Mary Retzlaff, Lauren, Avery, and Evan Glissendorft, Emma and Charles Coughlin; great-grandchildren, Cecilia Rose Stanke, Elsie Claire Stanke, and soon to arrive Stanke Twins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Howard; mother, Rosemary; brother, Jerry, grandson-in-law, Rubert Retzlaff; great-grandson, Dirk Tyler Stanke.

Per Jim's wishes there will be no services held. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
