James K. Likwarz, 93, of Tomahawk, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born January 17, 1930 in Tomahawk to Stanley and Margaret(Tafelski) Likwarz. He was married to Darlene Tully on August 20, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church here in Tomahawk. A lifetime of gratitude to our amazing mom for taking care of him all these years!
He was a proud Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Air Force. "Thank you for making the Stars on our flag shine so bright".
Jim and Darlene moved to Green Bay and raised their family there for over 30 years until retiring back home to Tomahawk in 1990. Jim built and designed three family homes and 2 family cottages. "Pencils were thrown between the two of them during the whole process." While in Green Bay he was employed as a Mechanical Designer for the Paper Converting Machine Company. He was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served on their board, also serving on the Board for the Knights of Columbus. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels in Tomahawk for over 28 years. Jim was a proud member of the VFW and American Legion. Jim flew on The Honor Flight Mission 12. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, writing "letters to the Editor" at The Leader, never holding back his opinions. He also was a HUGE Packer fan and enjoyed travelling, especially to Italy, in search of the "Best Hard Salami"! Jim's favorite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Darlene and their four children, Linda (Joseph) Shamey, Seal Rock, Oregon, Gary (Diane), Lisa, and Lesley. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Ian (Ben), Olivia, Jesse (Beth), Mike (Hillary), Stephen (Megan)Mackin and Tyler Mackin. Two great grandchildren, Sterling James Likwarz and Hayden Hayes Mackin. And of course, "Jimmy's special", Gabriella, Sophie and Isaac Urmann. Brother -in-Law, Ken (Marlene)Urso. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
A Memorial Service for James Likwarz with Military Rites will be held at Krueger Nimsgren Funeral Home at 2:00pm on Friday, December 22nd. Hospice Chaplain, Michele Rein will officiate. The family will receive friends at Krueger Nimsgern Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the time the of services. You may view the obituary and share on line condolences at nimsgernfuneral.com
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to contribute to several local organizations in Jim's honor.
